Entrepreneur Burnout
Whether you are new to your business or whether you are an experienced entrepreneur, you are in a unique position that proves that you are willing to take on a challenge that few ever brave. It can also be a place of isolation, even though you may be surrounded by colleagues, friends and networking opportunities. When you have a challenge, you cannot necessarily confide in your employees. You may not be able to confide in your family and friends or discussion may be limited if they have not experienced business ownership.
At the same time, the thought of therapy may feel like a mismatch for what you need. You do not necessarily want to waste hours of therapy talking about your problems. After all, you are a problem solver! You strive to see the glass half-full and to generally have a positive outlook on life! The thought of therapy may be off-putting if you are striving to press forward as opposed to looking backward.
After having spent close to 30 years in the field of public education, I know first-hand the many challenges of moving from a job to being an entrepreneur. Sometimes it may mean building one while doing the other. Or it may mean working part-time and building part-time. Depending on the situation, the expeirence can be isolating but also the formation of new friendships. It can mean thinking differently about your daily schedule and giving yourself permission to make it different. It can be stressful, frightening, and nerve-wrecking while being thrilling simultaneously.
As a therapist, I help entrepreneurs by:
utilizing their strengths in the process of healing
providing psycho-education so that they have the tools to self-regulate and to approach challenging situations with a sense of confidence
focusing on tools to help them sustain business performance as opposed to fixing a problem
concentrating on providing insight that can assist with healthy, efficient coping skills
assisting with addressing difficult emotions in a style that best fits the individual client via an integrative approach
